How to Explain Food chains
Green plants make their own food during photosynthesis, using energy from sunlight. Any living thing that makes its own food is called a producer. Green plants are therefore producers. animals on the other hand, cannot make their own food; they must obtain their food by eating plants or other animals. animals are called consumers because they eat, or consume, other living things. animals that eat plants are called herbivores. Rabbits are herbivores; they eat grass, cereals, carrots, lettuce, and many other plants. animals that feed on other animals are called carnivores. a fox is a carnivore; it feeds on animals such as insects, mice, birds, and rabbits.
